Copenhagen's Børsen Rebuild Uses Notre-Dame Techniques

Work has started to rebuild Copenhagen's old Stock Exchange, Børsen. A fire burned half of the 400-year-old building over two years ago. The Danish Chamber of Commerce leads the rebuild. Workers are using ideas learned from fixing Notre-Dame in Paris.

The project fixes two main parts of the building. Teams will replace the lost copper roof. They will also build a new dragon spire. Experts share special skills to complete the historic work.

Børsen stands on Slotsholmen island in central Copenhagen. It sits next to the parliament building at Christiansborg. Many local people pass the site daily on bikes and buses. Scaffolding still stands along the street named Børsgade. Traffic moves slightly slower in this area during peak hours.

The inside of the building remains closed to visitors. However, nearby sidewalks and harbor paths stay open. You can easily see the work from across the canal. Nearby metro stops at Gammel Strand and Kongens Nytorv run normally.
