Copenhagen Public Transport Fares Increase 18 Percent

Copenhagen public transport prices have jumped by 18 percent since 2023. This price hike directly increases monthly commuting costs for local residents and students. The finding comes from a new study published by Greenpeace on September 22.

Greenpeace reviewed transit fares across 14 European capital cities. Copenhagen now ranks among the top ten most expensive capitals for monthly transport tickets. A monthly ticket in the Danish capital now costs about 57 euros. London remains the most expensive European capital at 162 euros per month. Stockholm sits at 64 euros per month after a 9 percent increase.

The report shows transit fares grew up to 67 percent in some cities. Nicosia saw the highest price rise at 67 percent. Amsterdam fares climbed 55 percent to 107 euros monthly. In contrast, Dublin reduced its long-term ticket prices by 43 percent. Oslo fares dropped 12 percent over the same period.

Greenpeace says high prices discourage people from switching away from cars. Up to 15 percent of Europeans find transit costs a heavy financial burden. The group is asking governments to create affordable climate tickets. Travel Tomorrow reported these findings from the official Greenpeace review.
