Copenhagen Man Sentenced for Impersonating Bank and Police Staff in Scams

Residents in Denmark should stay alert to phone scams involving fake police or bank officers. The Roskilde Court sentenced a 21-year-old man from Copenhagen to prison for fraud. He admitted to tricking 22 elderly victims aged 69 to 93.

The perpetrator impersonated bank employees or police officers to gain trust. He worked with accomplices to carry out the scheme. The victims handed over payment cards, PIN codes, and large cash sums.

Mid- and West Zealand Police announced the court ruling in a press release. The man confessed to stealing 304,000 Danish kroner in total. He received an unconditional prison sentence of one year and three months. In court, he said he wanted money to spoil his new girlfriend.

Phone scams impersonating official authorities happen regularly across the region. Banks and police in Denmark never ask citizens for cards, PINs, or cash. Anyone receiving such calls should hang up immediately and notify local authorities.
