/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Passengers using Copenhagen Airport face longer security delays into next week. Travel during busy weekend periods may take significantly more time than usual.
Airport officials released a warning on Monday afternoon through news agency Ritzau. Communications director Lise Agerley Kürstein confirmed the extra security checks.
The delays follow an inspection by Trafikstyrelsen. Trafikstyrelsen is the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority. The inspection prompted the airport to introduce temporary extra security measures.
The airport has called in additional staff to manage the longer queues. Kürstein stated that staff are working hard to move passengers quickly. She emphasized that necessary high security standards will remain in place.
Travelers should arrive at least two hours early for Schengen flights. Passengers flying outside the Schengen Area should arrive three hours early.
Neither the airport nor Trafikstyrelsen disclosed the reason for the checks. The airport told Danish broadcaster DR the measures are not external. Kürstein told Ritzau that details of security procedures cannot be shared. She reassured travelers that security is top-notch and flying is safe.
Trafikstyrelsen will decide when normal security operations can resume. The authority will also determine if permanent changes are necessary.
