China Expands Visa-Free Transit Options to Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam

Travelers planning multi-destination trips through China can now access broader transit options. Effective August 20, 2026, China added Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam to two visa-free schemes. This change creates more routing choices for international journeys connecting through Chinese hubs.

The 240-hour visa-free transit policy now covers 57 countries worldwide. Eligible travelers with onward tickets can enter China via 65 designated ports. They can stay up to 240 hours in approved areas without applying for a visa.

China also expanded its Hainan 30-day visa-free entry scheme. The scheme now includes 61 eligible countries. Visitors entering through Hainan international ports can stay for 30 days in Hainan.

Both policies permit short-term tourism, business visits, and family reunions. They do not allow employment, formal study, or journalistic work. Travelers seeking long-term stays must apply for regular visas.

Chinese officials stated the policy aims to boost foreign trade and tourism. It also lowers administrative barriers for regional travel. The update was reported by immigration firm Newland Chase.
