BMW Recalls 1.36 Million Cars in China Over Airbag Safety Risks

BMW is calling back 1.36 million cars in China over airbag safety risks. The recall takes effect now. It covers imported cars and local cars made from 2003 to 2017. BMW will fix faulty front airbags for free after a check.

China's market agency announced the action in a statement. The joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive will recall 598,496 cars made in China. BMW China Automobile Trading will recall 759,448 imported cars. The risk comes from wheel refits by owners using faulty Takata airbags.

Takata airbag defects have caused car recalls in other places too. In July, US officials reported a recall of 394,000 BMW cars over airbag risks. Azernews reported the news based on a statement from China's market agency.
