/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Non-EU passport holders travelling through Schengen airports may see relief from long border queues. Major European aviation groups have called for urgent changes to EU biometric checks. Associations like ACI Europe, Airlines for Europe, and ABTA submitted an urgent request. They asked the European Commission and Schengen member states to overhaul border operations.
The Entry/Exit System has been fully active for half a year. Non-EU travellers still face border control delays of two to five hours. These routine queues occur frequently at major Schengen airports. Travelers passing through hubs like Copenhagen Airport are directly affected.
Industry bodies proposed six emergency measures to address the severe delays. One key proposal allows authorities to temporarily suspend biometric registration during peak congestion. These changes aim to speed up border checks during busy travel hours. International Airport Review reported the urgent request from the aviation sector.
