August Electricity Prices in Denmark Reach Highest Level Since 2022
Denmark experienced its most expensive month for electricity in nearly four years this August, with average prices nearly doubling normal levels.

/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Electricity in Denmark cost almost twice as much as usual this August. Residents across Denmark faced the highest monthly power prices since 2022.
Energy company OK reported an average price around 120 øre per kilowatt-hour including VAT. This price applied to both East and West Denmark. In recent years, August prices averaged about 68 øre per kilowatt-hour.
OK commercial chief Troels Skipper explained the reasons in a press release. Geopolitical unrest in the Middle East pushed energy markets higher. Extreme summer heatwaves across Europe also drove up power demand.
Low water levels in rivers reduced cooling capacity for nuclear power plants. As a result, those power stations had to operate at lower output levels.
