/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /New EU trade rules on Chinese imports may soon raise prices in Sweden. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced plans for new trade restrictions. She spoke at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday. The EU wants to stop unfair competition from state-backed Chinese goods.
Von der Leyen said Chinese firms get eight times more state aid. The EU trade deficit with China reached one billion euros per day in 2025. The Commission is already working with the machinery and chemical sectors. Further measures could raise tariffs and make imported Chinese products more expensive.
In December, the EU will introduce a plan called Diversify EU. This plan aims to help European companies find new supply chains. The EU also wants a new tool to block market access immediately. A solidarity package will support member states facing economic pressure.
EU leaders supported these steps at a recent summit in Brussels. Dialogue with Beijing has achieved some recent agreements. In October, both sides agreed on hybrid cars to limit exports to Europe. European firms also gained better access to Chinese rare earth elements. Von der Leyen said dialogue alone cannot fix structural trade imbalances. This report was published by CPH Post.
