China to Tighten Entry and Exit Controls in September 2026

Chinese citizens and foreign residents in Sweden face stricter visa rules soon. China will implement new exit and entry regulations on September 15, 2026.

The State Council published Decree No. 841 with detailed implementation rules. Immigration officials will gain expanded authority to check application documents. Officials can also inspect electronic records at border control points.

False statements or fake invitation letters will bring heavy fines. Violators will also face entry bans lasting one to five years.

The new rules will regulate visa intermediary agencies more strictly. China will also establish an enhanced travel risk notification system. This system will inform Chinese citizens traveling abroad about safety risks.
