/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Sweden and Denmark want major cuts to the next EU budget. Lower EU spending helps reduce tax pressures on member states.
Six northern European nations issued a joint statement demanding cuts. The countries are Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, and Finland. The European Commission proposed a budget of nearly 2,000 billion euros. This proposed plan covers the years 2028 to 2034.
The coalition wants to slash hundreds of billions of euros. They insist that all spending areas must contribute to cuts. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz supports these budget reductions.
Higher EU spending can place heavy fiscal pressure on national governments. National contributions directly affect local tax levels and domestic budgets. These funds also support local research, education, and public services.
