Power and Diesel Prices Spike to Nearly Two-Year High in Denmark

High energy prices will increase daily living and transport costs across Denmark. Electricity prices on Monday evening reached their highest level in nearly two years. The hourly price surpassed seven Danish kroner per kilowatt-hour.

Danish energy company OK announced the price spike in a press release on Monday morning. Commercial director Troels Skipper explained the reasons behind the sudden increase. He cited rising gas prices and low wind and solar power production. High gas prices push electricity costs up. Wind and solar sources currently cannot produce enough electricity to lower prices. The last time electricity reached seven Danish kroner per kilowatt-hour was December 2024.

Fuel prices in Denmark also surged on Monday. Diesel prices hit a record high of 19.19 Danish kroner per litre. This followed a price increase of 20 øre per litre. Petrol prices also increased by 40 øre per litre. Danish motorists association FDM reported these fuel price increases. FDM consumer economist Ilyas Dogru commented on the sharp price rise. He linked the increases to recent conflict involving the United States, Iran, and Israel.
