/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Driving while holding a phone in Denmark costs heavy fines and licence points. Police issued nearly 21,000 mobile phone penalty points in Denmark last year. This is the highest total in four years.
Mobile phone offences made up one in four traffic points in 2025. Officers issued 20,910 penalty points for handheld phone use behind the wheel. Total traffic penalty points reached 84,056 during the same period. Phone offences rose by 7.5 percent compared with 2024. Police gave out an average of 57 points every day.
Holding a phone while driving triggers a 1,500 Danish kroner fine. Drivers must also pay 1,000 Danish kroner to the Victims Fund. The offence adds one penalty point to your driving licence. These rules apply even at red lights or in traffic queues. Cyclists and electric scooter riders face the same handheld phone ban.
Drivers may briefly use phones mounted securely in a holder. Built-in car screens are also allowed. Insurance company Alm Brand called the figures deeply concerning. The Danish Road Safety Council warned about distraction on the roads. Looking away for four seconds means driving 89 metres completely blind. Police enforcement and camera upgrades may partly explain the higher numbers. Story reported by CPH Post.
