/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Thousands of university students and staff in Denmark face serious cyber security risks. Cyberattacks target outdated university computer systems across the country. The Technical University of Denmark recently suffered a major data hack. Hackers breached the university user database on Friday. Over 200,000 people may be affected by this security breach. Stolen data includes CPR numbers, home addresses, and phone numbers.
Jens Myrup Pedersen is a cybersecurity professor at Aarhus University. He spoke to Danish news agency Ritzau about the incident. He warned that many universities rely on old IT systems. These older systems fail to meet modern security standards. Universities store huge amounts of sensitive personal data. Complex IT environments make universities easy targets for cybercriminals.
The Danish Agency for Societal Security evaluated the cyber threat in 2025. It rated the risk to Danish universities as very high. DTU has notified the Danish Data Protection Agency about the breach. The National Special Crime Unit is also investigating the case. Authorities have not yet named any suspects in the attack. The Copenhagen Post reported on this ongoing security issue.
