/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Copenhagen residents recently gained rare access to the underground Nordhavn Tunnel construction site. The Danish Road Directorate hosted a public open day with contractor BESIX-MT Højgaard. Visitors explored the excavation pit on the Østerbro side. They walked up to 18 meters beneath Svanemølle harbour and Kalkbrænderiløbet.
The 1.4-kilometer tunnel uses the cut-and-cover construction method. Workers excavate a deep trench and build the concrete tunnel inside. Crews gradually restore the ground surface above the finished tunnel. Project engineers answered questions about the harbour infrastructure work.
Above ground, twelve Danish street artists turned site fences into an outdoor gallery. Each artist painted a 20-meter section of the perimeter fence. Visitors watched final touches, met the artists, and tried painting themselves. The open day offered locals a clear view of major city infrastructure.
