/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Growing up in Denmark does not always mean feeling fully accepted. A new podcast episode from CPH Post explores this common international experience. Host Derek talks with author Lena Rexhepi about identity and belonging.
Rexhepi came to Denmark from Kosovo in 1999 as a refugee. She was nine years old when her family fled war. Today she is a successful professional and author. She wrote a book about being a foreigner in two places.
In the episode, Rexhepi shares her daily experiences with racism and social barriers. She often faces assumptions at work, on dates, and at dinner parties. She must explain her foreign name during business meetings. These innocent questions can make long-term residents feel invisible or excluded.
Rexhepi also discusses the changing political tone regarding immigrants in Denmark. At the same time, she highlights what she genuinely loves about Danish culture. She explains why identity does not always fit into a single box.
