A new large tick species was recently discovered in Norway.
Norwegian broadcaster NRK reported the finding.
A father found an unusually large tick on his child last year.
He sent the specimen in for further examination.
Scientists identified the species as Hyalomma excavatum.
This tick is larger than ordinary ticks in the region.
It features long striped hind legs.
Unlike ordinary ticks, it does not wait in tall grass.
Instead, it actively runs after its prey.
