MobilePay launches digital proof of age feature in Denmark

MobilePay has launched a digital age check for physical stores in Denmark. You can now prove your age using the app on your phone. This feature appears under the app menu called Wallet. Vipps MobilePay started releasing the update on Tuesday.

Users can add a passport photo to this age document. The screen shows your name, photo, and age group. MobilePay product manager Dennis Kvade explained the reason for this new feature. He said people need to verify their age more often today. Carrying a physical passport on a night out is not convenient. Existing age checks can also lead to fraud.

The supermarket chain Rema 1000 will accept this new digital age proof. The company is informing its store employees about the change. However, this feature is not an official identity card. It cannot replace a passport, health card, or driving licence.

The tool helps young people buy age-restricted items like alcohol in stores. Each business can choose whether to accept this app document. Therefore, you should check before relying on it everywhere. In early 2026, Denmark launched AltID as its official digital identity app.
