/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Fewer than half of Denmark's public air-raid shelters work in an acute emergency. A recent physical inspection revealed serious safety issues in many concrete shelters.
The inspection was done by Denmark's Ministry for Civil Security and Emergency Management. Officials checked 1,694 public concrete shelters across the country.
Only 831 of those shelters met basic emergency standards. This represents just 49 percent of the located shelters.
To meet basic standards, shelters need accessible interior rooms and an intact structure. They must also have central fixed installations that work. The findings have now prompted new repair initiatives in Denmark, according to The Copenhagen Post.
