/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Travelers across Denmark will not face delays during a major bridge upgrade. The Great Belt West Bridge will undergo a 232 million Danish kroner renovation. Work will run from April 2027 to November 2029. Both car and rail traffic will remain unaffected throughout the project.
The West Bridge connects Zealand and Funen via the island of Sprogø. About 36,000 vehicles cross the Great Belt every day. Engineers will lift sections of the nearly seven-kilometer bridge by 20 millimeters. This allows workers to replace and renovate the bridge bearings. Each bridge span measures 110 meters and weighs about 5,500 metric tons. Workers must repeat the lifting process 84 times.
Bridge operator Sund & Bælt tested this lifting method in November 2024. They used 12 special jacks while traffic continued without disruption. Construction firm MT Højgaard Danmark will carry out the main renovation. In addition, the New Little Belt Bridge will also be renovated. That project runs from April through October in 2027 and 2028. According to CPH Post, it will include replacing joints and adding new waterproofing.
