/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Denmark ranked 16th overall in the InterNations Expat Insider 2026 survey. Foreign residents gave high scores for quality of life and job security. Work-life balance in Denmark remains among the best in the world.
However, the study highlights a major challenge for foreign residents. Many expats struggle to make local friends and feel socially integrated. The survey shows a sharp divide between professional comfort and social connection.
For international residents in Copenhagen, this pattern is very familiar. Danish workplace culture leaves plenty of time for personal activities. Yet, Danish colleagues usually separate their job from their private life. They often rely on long-standing social circles built during childhood.
To build a social life, expats must take active steps. Joining local sports clubs or interest groups is a common way to meet people. Taking Danish language classes in the municipality also offers good networking opportunities.
