First Copenhagen China Festival Brings Mid-Autumn Celebrations to City Hall Square

Copenhagen hosted its first China Festival at City Hall Square on September 27, 2026. The event gave local Chinese residents a central place to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. It transformed the plaza into an open-air stage for traditional culture.

The festival was organized by the China Cultural Center in Copenhagen and partner groups. Its main theme was Mid-Autumn in Poetry. Festivities began with a lion dance and a street parade. Performing groups from across Denmark shared the stage.

Performers from Zhejiang presented Wu Opera, a recognized national intangible cultural heritage item. Excerpts included Three Fights Against the White Bone Demon. The program also featured tai chi, Peking Opera, music, and poetry readings.

Food stalls offered mooncakes and hand-pulled noodle demonstrations. Interactive booths featured calligraphy, tea culture, traditional crafts, and quizzes. The event was reported by Xinhua.
