/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Buying cheap items online from outside the European Union will soon cost more. Starting November 1, 2026, the European Union imposes a new mandatory fee. The charge is 2 euros per item line on direct consumer shipments.
This new permanent handling fee applies to all non-EU e-commerce parcels. It applies regardless of the consignment value of your order. The fee stacks on top of an existing duty. In July 2026, the EU added a temporary 3 euros duty. That temporary duty covers purchases valued under 150 euros. Together, small orders face up to 5 euros in extra charges per category.
The policy covers customs inspection costs across member states. It aims to regulate the huge surge of low-cost cross-border parcels. Over 90 percent of these packages come from China. Popular shopping platforms include AliExpress, Temu, and Shein. This rule significantly increases costs for budget online shoppers. The original report was published by Visit Ukraine.
