EU Proposes Social Media Ban for Children Under 13
The European Union plans to ban social media for children under 13 and limit access for teenagers up to 15 under new proposed rules.

/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Families in Denmark and Sweden may soon face new rules for children online. The EU wants to ban social media for kids under 13. EU chief Ursula von der Leyen announced the proposal on Wednesday. Denmark was among the member states pushing for these changes.
The new rules will use a tiered age system. Children under 13 cannot use social media platforms at all. Teens aged 13 to 14 will need parent supervision. Their mini accounts will have a daily one-hour time limit. Youths aged 15 to 17 will see safer platform designs.
The plan also targets addictive features like infinite scrolling. Tech firms breaking the rules could face massive fines. Fines may reach six percent of their global annual turnover. The proposal is officially named the KIDS Act. It still needs approval from member states and the European Parliament. Negotiations are expected to take several months.
