EU Approves Customs Reform for Online Orders From China

Ordering goods online from China will soon change for shoppers in Copenhagen. On September 3, 2026, the Council of the European Union approved a major customs reform.

Under the updated regulations, non-EU e-commerce platforms will act as official importers. These platforms will pay duties and handle customs formalities directly. Individual consumers will no longer need to manage customs clearance themselves.

The new policy directly affects cross-border shopping. Over 90 percent of e-commerce parcels entering the EU currently originate from China.
