Eight Arrested During Central Copenhagen Demonstration

Copenhagen police arrested eight people on Saturday during a central city demonstration.

The group Det Danske Folk organized the main gathering.

Counterprotesters also gathered along the march route.

The arrests happened near Kongens Nytorv and Højbro Plads.

Police made three arrests before the event started at 2 p.m.

Two people argued near Kongens Nytorv.

Another person refused to show police their identification.

Demonstrators then marched toward Christiansborg Palace Square.

Five more arrests occurred around 5 p.m. near Højbro Plads.

Deputy Inspector Jakob Hansen said masked groups started clashes as the protest ended.

Officers drew batons to stop the group fights.

Police have not released the charges yet.

CPH Post reported the incident.
