Driving across the Øresund Bridge will take longer through late October

Driving across the Øresund Bridge will be slower starting today. Maintenance work will restrict traffic until late October. Copenhagen and Malmö commuters should expect longer travel times. Only one lane will open in each direction. This single-lane stretch will cover about 1.5 kilometers. The lane restrictions affect both sides of the high bridge.

Workers must replace two expansion joints on the bridge structure. These joints allow the bridge to move safely. For example, temperature changes cause the bridge material to shift. The main replacement work actually begins on Monday. However, traffic controls are already in place starting today.
