/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Denmark wants to ban children under 15 from social media. The Danish government is asking the European Commission for special permission. This permission would let Denmark start its rule while EU negotiations continue.
The Danish plan might face a delay. The European Commission will not approve new national restrictions for 12 months. This decision could push back Denmark's planned start date of July 1, 2027. Danish MEP Christel Schaldemose said the delay could last three years.
Minister for Digitalization Christina Egelund expressed strong disappointment with the EU. She said the EU creates a gap in child protection online. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen previously praised the plan as a historic step. The age limit would affect popular platforms like TikTok and Snapchat. Denmark still hopes to protect young people while EU rules are written.
