Denmark and ASEAN sign five-year partnership agreement

Denmark has formally established a new five-year partnership framework with ASEAN countries. This agreement expands economic, trade, and green ties between Denmark and Southeast Asia. The inaugural committee meeting took place in Jakarta on 11 August 2026. It follows Denmark becoming an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner in January.

Both sides adopted the terms of reference for their joint committee. They agreed to create a five-year plan for practical cooperation. Talks focused on trade, investment, climate adaptation, and the energy transition. Delegates also discussed the ASEAN Power Grid and green shipping initiatives.

Future cooperation may include digitalisation, sustainable agriculture, and the circular economy. The partners also highlighted health, biotechnology, and smart city developments. Discussions covered human rights, counterterrorism, and transnational crime prevention. People-to-people exchanges will also play a key role in the partnership.
