/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Women in Denmark with endometriosis need more than surgery and pills.
A major Danish study shows they need holistic care.
This includes physiotherapy, fertility support, nutrition advice, and mental healthcare.
The findings help women navigate local public health services in Copenhagen.
Researchers from Aarhus University and Copenhagen University Hospital led the new study.
They surveyed 769 adults with endometriosis or adenomyosis across Denmark.
Endometriosis affects one in ten women of reproductive age.
It causes severe pain and fertility issues.
Adenomyosis causes similar pain and heavy menstrual bleeding.
Participants ranked five non-surgical services as most helpful for daily life.
Specialist gynaecological physiotherapy was the top requested service.
Fertility treatment and nutritional advice were also high priorities.
Patients requested psychological support and exercise therapy as well.
They asked for better information and knowledgeable doctors.
Lead researcher Ulrik Bak Kirk stressed that treatment must be integrated.
Pain and mental health are closely connected for chronic conditions.
The study could support a future national centre for endometriosis care.
It was published in the journal BMC Women's Health.
