Danish School Students Score Lowest Ever Pisa Test Results

Danish schoolchildren have scored their lowest Pisa test results in 25 years. Parents in Denmark face a serious fall in local school standards. The study tested 15-year-olds in reading, maths, and science. Reading skills saw the largest drop among all subjects.

Denmark scored 460 points in reading in 2025. That is a drop of 29 points from 2022. A 20-point drop equals one full year of lost learning. In maths, Denmark scored 471 points, down 19 points. In science, the score fell to 478 points.

A 15-year-old today has reading skills of a 13-year-old from 2015. Education Minister Magnus Heunicke called this a serious education crisis. He promised government investments to help schools, teachers, and students. Danish Pisa project manager Vibeke Tornhøj Christensen said scores have fallen since 2015.

The fall in scores affected other Nordic countries too. However, Denmark suffered the biggest drop among its Nordic neighbours. The Ministry of Education blamed tech distractions like smartphones in class. Over a third of students reported tech distractions during lessons.
