Danish population mix projected to shift by 2100

According to news outlet The Local, the Danish Ministry of Finance published the projections.

The calculation uses net migration figures from 2019 to 2025.

People of Danish descent currently make up 83.2 percent of the population.

That proportion could fall to 68.9 percent by the year 2100.

The ministry stresses this calculation is only a theoretical model.

It is not an official forecast of future population growth.

Under this model, non-Western immigrants would grow from 7.7 to 10.9 percent.

Their descendants born in Denmark would represent 6.8 percent of the population.

Western immigrants would increase from 5.7 percent to 9 percent.

Descendants of Western immigrants would reach 4.5 percent by 2100.

Western countries include EU nations, Sweden, Norway, the UK, and the US.

An alternate scenario uses migration data from early this year.

In that model, Danish descent population drops to 74.3 percent by 2100.

Non-Western immigrants would increase to 7.8 percent instead.

Far-right lawmaker Mikkel Bjørn requested these statistical figures from the ministry.
