/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Denmark's Eastern High Court has upheld strict citizenship self-support rules. The court ruled that denying citizenship for missing self-support criteria is legal.
The case involved a Palestinian woman who moved to Denmark in 1999. She suffered a traffic accident ten years later.
Her reduced work capacity qualified her for a Danish flexjob. Later she received unemployment benefits.
These benefits made her fail the financial self-sufficiency requirement. Her citizenship application was rejected in February 2023.
The woman argued the refusal was unlawful indirect discrimination against her disability. The High Court rejected her arguments and ruled for the ministry.
Her lawyer Petra Alexandra Fokdal noted that flexjob workers face systemic traps when unemployed. Fokdal announced plans to appeal the ruling to the Danish Supreme Court, CPH Post reported.
