Danish Government Plans Tourist Tax in Copenhagen and Aarhus

Tourists in Copenhagen and Aarhus may soon pay a 20 DKK overnight tax.

The Danish government plans this tax to fund income and business tax cuts.

It also plans a new levy on cruise ships.

The minority government needs support from other parties to pass the proposal.

Support is expected from the center-right opposition this autumn.

The plan includes several tax cuts for residents and local businesses.

It removes the 7.5 percent tax on income between 641,200 DKK and 777,900 DKK.

The top-top tax on income exceeding 2,592,700 DKK will also be abolished.

Corporate tax will fall from 22 percent to 19 percent over three years.

The ceiling for share savings accounts will rise to 500,000 DKK.

Share taxes will also decrease over the same period.

The government will keep duties on chocolate and sweets to raise revenue.

It will lower research and development deductions for companies.

Taxes on dividends for major shareholders will increase.

Interest deductions will have a limit of 150,000 DKK for single people.

Couples will have an interest deduction limit of 300,000 DKK.

Estates over 10 million DKK will face 15 percentage points higher taxes.

The government will also use 1.5 billion DKK from public funds in 2027.

This funding will rise to 2 billion DKK in 2029.
