/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Wolt must give job injury insurance to its delivery riders in Denmark. The National Appeals Board ruled that the firm acts as an employer under Danish work safety laws. This decision gives foreign workers and students key legal rights if they get hurt at work.
The case began with a 2023 road crash involving rider Mahendra Poudel. He lives in Greater Copenhagen and holds a Portuguese passport. A child stepped onto a bike path, which caused his crash. The appeals board backed a rule by the Danish Labour Market Insurance body. That body found Wolt was his employer during the crash.
Anna Ilsøe, an expert at the University of Copenhagen, spoke on the case. She said the rule sets Wolt's duty to insure workers against job harm. But she noted the rule applies only to job injury claims. It does not set rider status in every legal area.
Danish tax and injury offices count riders as employees for their official work. But Wolt says riders are free partners who choose their own hours. Wolt refused to talk on this case. The firm said it will fight the ruling in court, CPH Post reported.
