Copenhagen Metro Selects New Operator for 17 Billion DKK Contract

A new company will operate Copenhagen metro lines M1 to M4 starting September 2027.

Metroselskabet selected KBH Metro Partner for a 12-year contract worth 17 billion Danish kroner.

The deal includes running daily train operations and maintaining the network.

It also covers major technical upgrades for the older lines.

KBH Metro Partner is a joint venture between ComfortDelGro and RATP Development.

The new contract runs until 2039 with an option for three extra years.

Current operator Metro Service has run the network for over 20 years.

Its current contract expires on 28 September 2027.

The Copenhagen metro network covers 43 kilometres across 44 stations.

In 2025, the metro carried a record 135 million passengers.

It maintained an average operational reliability of 99.3 percent.

The new contract aims to keep operational stability above 99 percent.

The new operator will also modernize technical installations on lines M1 and M2.

Lines M1 and M2 opened in 2002.

Line M3 opened in 2019, and line M4 opened in 2020 and 2024.

Metroselskabet expects to sign the agreement this month.
