Copenhagen Metro Brings Back First Upgraded Train with More Capacity
Copenhagen Metro has returned its first modernized train to service on lines M1 and M2, offering 11 percent more passenger space after a refit in Rotterdam.

/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Passengers on Copenhagen metro lines M1 and M2 now have more room on their daily trips. The first modernized train has returned to daily service after work in Rotterdam. It offers 11 percent more space for riders and faster boarding. City officials plan to update all 34 original trains over the next five years. RailwayPro reported the updates to the transit system.
This train first ran in 2002 and traveled 2.3 million kilometers before its update. Alstom won the 30 million euro deal in January 2023 to renew the fleet. The overhaul adds at least ten years to the train life. A new seat layout raises total room from 270 to 300 riders.
Workers fitted new doors, cables, bogies, and lights. They also added new floors and fresh paint inside and out. Kids can use modernized control panels at the front and back to play driver. These changes help people get on and off the train much faster.
Danish rail operator DSB is also automating the S-Bahn train network. Hitachi Rail won a contract to supply digital tools for 87 stations. The system includes platform safety sensors and real-time transit info. Siemens and Stadler will build 226 driverless trains under a three billion euro contract. The first new S-Bahn trains will enter service in 2032.
