Copenhagen Hosts World Athletics Road Running Event in 2026

Copenhagen residents will face major road closures and transport changes in September 2026. The city hosts the World Athletics Road Running Championships on September 19 and 20. According to Watch Athletics, this major event will bring thousands of visitors.

Nearly 500 elite athletes from 85 countries will compete in the event. The championship features three main distances for competition. Athletes will race in the road mile, five-kilometer, and half marathon events.

Public runners can also participate in the weekend races. Around 65,000 mass-participation runners will join the official courses. Local residents can expect crowded streets and busy central areas during the competition.
