/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Buying an apartment in Copenhagen is becoming less active as mortgage rates rise. Home sales across Denmark fell 12 percent in September compared to last year. Copenhagen saw the sharpest drop, with apartment sales falling 23 percent.
Data from property portal Boligsiden shows 7,709 homes were sold nationwide in September. Total sales for the first nine months of 2026 dropped three percent. Nationwide apartment sales fell eight percent during this period.
Rising interest rates are a primary reason for the slowdown. AL Sydbank personal finance economist Brian Friis Helmer noted fixed mortgage rates rose recently. Rates fluctuated between four and five percent, up from 3.5 percent early this year. Higher costs for gasoline, gas, and electricity also reduced household budgets.
Despite the slowdown, strong employment and rising real incomes continue to support the market. Sales of houses and terraced homes also dropped. However, holiday home sales rose by 4.5 percent. Boligsiden communications director Birgit Daetz said this shows many households remain financially secure. According to CPH Post, rental income and rising property values make holiday homes attractive options.
