363,600 Allergy Patients in Denmark Must Renew Prescriptions for Subsidies

Over 363,000 allergy patients in Denmark must renew their prescriptions to keep medication subsidies. The Danish Medicines Agency announced new rules for prescription allergy medicine subsidies. Under these rules, subsidies for some medicines will only cover specific patient groups. Other patients will no longer receive subsidies for their current medications.

Affected patients can ask their doctor for a subsidized alternative medicine. Doctors can apply for individual subsidies if patients suffer from side effects. The policy changes apply to nasal sprays, eye drops, tablets, and capsules. Subsidies will end for medicines like Allergone, Altifex, Benadryl, Beconase, and Benarhin. This applies to patients who can use alternatives starting February 1, 2027.

About 750,000 people in Denmark currently use prescription allergy medicine. The decision follows recommendations from the official Reimbursement Committee. Patients should check the Danish Medicines Agency website to confirm their status. Reporting by CPH Post.
