/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Proposed cuts to Denmark's public student grant have sparked massive protests across Copenhagen. Around 30,000 students demonstrated outside the Danish Parliament on Wednesday.
The protest started at Copenhagen City Hall Square at 12:30 p.m. Participants then marched to Christiansborg Parliament. Students carried banners demanding politicians save the grant system.
The government wants to change the student grant rules. Grants will stop for students living with parents earning over 710,077 Danish kroner yearly. Grants will decrease for parental incomes between 419,589 and 710,077 Danish kroner.
About 81,000 young people will face financial cuts under this budget proposal. The government plans to redirect saved funds into Denmark's armed forces.
Organisers from the upper secondary students association expected only 10,000 people. However, 19 buses brought students from across the country to join. About 40,000 students at 57 schools walked out of classes. (Source: CPH Post)
